Week of 3/17- 3/20

Happy Spring!

There is a Leadership Week flyer being sent home- please refer to it for our spirit days next week!!

Word Work: 

  • New sight words for the week were: try, kind, hand, picture, again
  • Focused on the blend oy
  • learned the ending ing and that it means something is happening right now
Writer's Workshop:
  • Had an On-Demand writing prompt to see what we knew about realistic fiction
  • Spent a few days immersing in realistic fiction books to become familiar with what realistic fiction is- real characters, no talking animals, real place as a setting, etc. 
  • We started brainstorming ideas of what we can write in our own realistic fiction book
Reader's Workshop:
  • Described the connection between 2 ideas or pieces of information in a non fiction text
  • immersed in mentor texts and explored their characters and adventures 
  • learned to identify the character and what adventures and experience they have
Science:
  • We learned what a meteorologist is and what tools they use to be able to predict the weather! 
  • We got to be meteorologists and create our own weather forecast! 

Social Studies:
  • LUCKY O'BRIEN CAME TO OUR CLASS and destroyed our traps! He was too tricky for us! 


















Math
  • We learned what an attribute is and used them to describe different shapes. 
  • Compared the counting up and counting back to subtract methods and used them to solve subtraction problems faster
