Week of April 27-May 1

Summer is almost here! In first grade we are getting excited!

Just a reminder that next Thursday, May 7 is our field trip to the zoo! Next Friday, May 8th, is fun in the sun day! Your child will be coming home on Monday with reminders :)

Word Work

• learned/ reviewed the au blend and mp blend

Writer's Workshop

• Used a checklist on our realistic fiction books
• Made our books have detailed pictures and titles for each chapter
• Created a cover page
• Had our writing celebration!
• Immersed into different types of structured books
• Began writing our "fun" book! (comics, jokes, cook book, funny, etc)

Reader's Workshop

• Worked on our fluency with a reader's theater script
• Learned what visualization is and what it means to visualize (have a movie in our head while reading)

Science

• We began making a first grade school memory book! We will be working on these through the rest of the year :)

Social Studies

• Learned about Ancient China
• Learned about Ancient Egypt and wrote our names in hieroglyphics!
• Learned about Ancient Rome and learned to write Roman Numerals
• Learned about the Maya Civilization 

Math

• Reviewed place value
• Reviewed 3D shapes
• Took down the April Calendar and assembled May!
